Activity: Draft firm vision + goals.
Homework: Identify your top 3 target clients (e.g., families, small businesses, nonprofits).
Week 2: Entity Setup & Compliance
Topics: LLC vs. S-Corp for your tax firm, EFIN application, PTIN, compliance with IRS and state.
Activity: Step-by-step entity & IRS checklist.
Homework: Complete PTIN/EFIN or gather requirements.
Week 3: Banking, Bookkeeping & Software Setup
Topics: Business bank account, choosing tax software (Drake, TaxSlayer, ProSeries, etc.), setting up QuickBooks or Xero for your own firm.
Activity: Compare software + open a business account.
Homework: Select & register tax software.
Week 4: Pricing & Profit Models
Topics: How to price returns, value-based pricing vs. flat fees, upsells (bookkeeping, CFO services, tax planning).
Activity: Build your Service Menu + Price Sheet.
Homework: Draft your firmβs engagement letter (templates provided).
Week 5: Marketing Your Tax Firm
Topics: Building authority, leveraging social media, client referrals, partnering with banks (Refund Advantage, etc.).
Activity: Create a 90-Day Marketing Calendar.
Homework: Post your first firm marketing content.
Week 6: Client Experience & Workflow Systems
Topics: CRM setup (Canopy, TaxDome, Tax Nitro), onboarding scripts, portals, secure document collection.
Activity: Map your client workflow (from inquiry to return delivery).
Homework: Set up a client portal & test onboarding process.
Week 7: Team Building & Scaling
Topics: Hiring tax preparers, admin staff, outsourcing, profit splits (70/30, commission-based).
Activity: Write a job description for your first role.
Homework: Post job or create internal SOPs for next season.
Week 8: Tax Planning & Wealth as a Firm Owner
Topics: Top deductions for firm owners (home office, auto, software, training, marketing), retirement planning (SEP IRA, Solo 401k), paying kids.
Activity: Draft your own firm tax strategy.
